The UNESCO/UNFPA Population and Environment Project in the Eastern Islands of Fiji, Man and the Biosphere Programme, 1974-1976

Background to this project (37 kb in PDF).

This project's reports contain a wealth of information on approaches to, and the assessment of relationships between, people and environment in small islands. This information can assist islanders, as well as other researchers and practitioners, to better understand historical and contemporary environmental change in small islands. With thanks to JC Gaillard who devoted considerable time to preparing PDF scans of the original reports. Also with particular thanks to the project team members who kindly supported the development of this website and spent considerable effort compiling the Background document, listed above--and, of course, thanks to them for completing and publishing the inspiring work in the first place.
